Minister - Rev Brian Harley

Brian is married to Janet and they have three children, two who are working and one is at university, and a teenage foster child, who is at High School.

He grew up in a suburban Methodist Church and came to a personal faith at the age of 15.  He soon became a youth leader and went on to join The City Temple URC in central London when he and Janet got married in 1983.

He served as an elder and worship leader and worked as an insurance underwriter in London for 13 years (something in the City!) before feeling the strong call of God to move on into full time ministry.  He trained at Westminster College, Cambridge and came directly from there to Shanklin in 1994.

Brian sees his main gifts as Bible teaching, leading worship and pastoral care; he is also an able guitarist.  As well as pastoring the local church, he is deeply committed to working with other Christians on the Island and has been involved in planning and leading various events.  He also regularly takes school assemblies and with his wife Janet, has established a very successful annual Holiday Bible Club for children in Shanklin.  Janet is also one of the founders of CatURpillars.

He is Chairman of the National Committee of GEAR, The Group for Evangelism and Renewal within the United Reformed Church.

Brian is pictured left speaking at a GEAR conference.

Chris May - Secretary

Colin Tamcken - Treasurer

Chris took over as our Church Secretary in Spring 2005 and is the lynch pin in our church life.

Formerly the editor of our church magazine 'The Link', she works hard to keep things running smoothly.

E-mail: Chris May

Colin took over as treasurer at the beginning of 2004, having joined the leadership team the previous year. He had previously led one of our youth groups for several years. He grew up in Shanklin and now works in the finance department of an Island business.

Jane Watson - Youth and Children's Ministry

Youth Worker -  James Alder

Jane is our Elder responsible for overseeing our children and young people's work.  She co-ordinates the children's work on a Sunday morning, leading a good team who share in the ministry on a monthly basis for the various age-groups

E-mail: Jane Watson

We have appointed James Alder as our new Youth Worker and he will begin his role on 1 July after completing a degree in Christian Youth Work at Chester University.

James grew up on the Island and even lived in Shanklin for a few years before his mother Louise began her first ministry post in Cowes.

Please pray for him as he prepares to join us and thank the Lord for leading him and us in the whole process.

Heather Cunningham

Jean has a strong pastoral heart and particularly encourages the development of our House Groups and overseas mission.

Heather regularly leads our sung worship and coordinates the team. She has also been key in drawing together the 18-30’s and encouraging social and spiritual life among the young adults.

Malcolm Stevens

Mike has recently taken over as leader of our Property Team and looks after maintenance and the running of the building as well as taking a major role in our Building for the Future team. He and his wife also sing regualrly in the music team.
